Committee of the Whole Highlights
- The contract to replace the Cannington lawn Bowling roof has been received and rewarded to Chouinard Bros Roofing. Construction timeline has yet to be determined.
- The Sunderland Arena User Groups submitted their feedback which will be included in the Descope Committee discussions.
Council Meeting Highlights
- Council approved an Art Installation, featuring paintings by local artists of fish, native to Lake Simcoe at the Beaverton Harbour.
- The Wishing Tower Dedication Presentation and Dedications Ceremony will he held on Friday June 21, 2024 at 7:30 p.m. at the Beaverton Harbour on the top of the hill.
- The Cannington Lions Club Canada Day 2024 event will be held in MacLeod Park on Monday July 1, 2024
- The Beaverton Lions Club Canada Day 2024 will be held in at the Beaverton Fair Grounds on Monday July 1, 2024
- Council has approved the use of Beaverton Fairgrounds Walking Trial for a Fun Run that will be held on October 5, 2024 from 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
- The Cannington Haunted Attraction will take place on October 18-19 and 25-26, 2024 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
- Council Received the Traffic Accelerating Aggressively Reaching Fast Speeds Petition and has recommended that
- Dragons Teeth pavement marking be installed on Main Street E
- Speed limit reduction from 50 km/hr to 40 km/hr with new signage be installed
- Placement of an LED speed notice sign set to the new speed limit of 40 km/hr after signage is installed
- Additional signage be placed reading "Traffic Calming Area"
- Staff advise DRPS about speed reductions and ask for additional enforcement for that area
- Regional Councillor Jubb gave an update on the Beaver River Bridge. The Provincial Government has approved $16.6 million in funding for a temporary bridge and construction of a permanent bridge as well as proposed to transfer ownership back to the Region of Durham. This will be discussed at the Durham Regional Council Meeting on May 29, 2024 with the recommendation to declare this bridge closure an emergency which opens up different procurement options for the Region.
