Durham Region Emancipation Day Celebration returns August 1
Whitby, Ontario – On August 1, the Emancipation Day Celebration in Durham Region returns at the Audley Recreation Centre in Ajax.
In recognition of Emancipation Day (August 1), the Region’s Emancipation 2023 Celebration Committee is hosting an Emancipation Day Celebration. This year’s theme is Liberation. Legacy. Progress.
This free, family-friendly celebration will include live performances, food vendors, children’s activities and more.
When: August 1 from 4 to 7 p.m.
Where: Audley Recreation Centre (Community Hall),1955 Audley Road North, Ajax.

Why: We continue to see acts of anti-Black racism in Durham Region, evidenced by the experiences shared by Black communities. Emancipation Day is an opportunity for Durham Region to connect and learn about emancipation, while also looking toward the future we aspire to create for all members of the community.
