Council Highlights December 2024

The Township of Brock Council Discussed the follow:
December 2, 2024
- Council has authorized staff to close the Blackwater Bridge on Concession 4 in Sunderland and proceed with Chisholm Fleming and Associates as the project manager for the rehabilitation of the bridge. The Blackwater Bridge is officially closed as of December 10, 2024 with hopes of work commencing in January 2025
- Council received a presentations from the Brock non-Profit Sector Advisory Committee and Brock Accessibility Advisory Committee giving highlights of workplan accomplishments in 2024.

- Public feedback on the Macleod Park Plan was presented to Council and included input from community organizations and members of the public at the Open House on October 24, 2024. Most comments indicated that a multi-use sports field followed by accessible paths and a dog park were top priorities for members of the community. Staff have been directed to put out a Request for Proposal for the sign of a multi-use sports field design and cost for Council considerations.
- The Animal Control By-Law was amended to include a new Lifetime Dog Licence option, enhancements to the Care of Animal section and includes a new section regarding Dangerous or Potentially Dangerous Dogs. Lifetime Dog licences will be available in 2025 for $150 for fixed dogs and $200 for intact dogs.
- A speed limit reduction in Blackwater was approved by Council and directed staff to reduce the speed limit on Blackwater Road between Highway 12/7 to the south and Brock Concession Road 4 to the north to 40 km/h, and on Concession 4 west of Blackwater Bridge to Highway 12
- The Township of Brock has supported many organizations across multiple categories which provide recreational and social opportunities for residents and visitors. Council received an update on the support provided by the municipality in 2024, which is the first time that the municipality has tracked the financial impact of support to community organizations. The total value of support provided from May to December was $81,332.69. - Council held a Special Council meeting on Wednesday, December 18th to hear input from the public on the proposed sale of Wilfrid Hall.
