Commissioner of Oaths
The Clerk's Department provides Commissioner of Oath services for documents such affidavits, oaths and statutory declarations. The Township of Brock does not have a Notary Public and cannot notarize documents.
Hours of Operation
This service is available Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the municipal offices located at 1 Cameron St. E. in Cannington. We encourage you to contact us to schedule an appointment, to make sure the commissioner is available before you visit.
Fees
Residents of Brock pay $21.60 for the initial Commissioner of Oaths signature and $5.10 for each additional signature. Non-residents will pay $27.70 for the initial signature and $5.10 for each additional signature. Note that seniors over 65 years of age are exempt from the commissioning fees (excluding MTO vehicle transfers).
You can pay by debit or cash.
Requirements
All parties required to sign the document must attend our office, in person, with a valid piece of government issued photo identification. Copies of the photo identification are not accepted. Documents to be commissioned should not be signed until you are in the presence of the Commissioner of Oaths.
Documents
Examples of common documents we may be able to commission:
- Consent letters for children travelling out of the country
- Immunization exemptions
- Insurance claim forms
- Vehicle transfers
- Proof of life – domestic and foreign pension documents (no fee)
- Sworn statement of a family gift of a used motor vehicle in the province of Ontario
- Sworn statement for the transfer of a used motor vehicle in the province of Ontario
Examples of common documents that we cannot commission:
- Wills, “Living” Wills, Codicils to Wills
- Powers of Attorney
- Divorce, Separation or Cohabitation documents
- Custody documents
- Real estate documents
- Documents requiring signature of a Notary Public
- Documents related to Finances
We cannot guarantee that we can commission documents until reviewed by the Commissioner of Oaths. We reserve the right to refuse commissioning services of any document.
