Public Works Department News

Register today for the Beaver River Trail Run and Ride. This annual event will be held on May 27th and 28th. The Saturday will feature the run with categories for every level and ability, and the Sunday will feature the ride, offering something for every level and ability. The Run and Ride will begin at the Rick MacLeish Memorial Community Centre and travel south towards Sunderland. trekking_in_woods.jpg
Now hiring Casual Parks Labourer(s). These positions will be required to work from May through September, 2017. Submit your application by no later than 4:30 p.m. on Thursday March 23, 2017.
Reminder: Weight Restrictions are in effect  on some Township roads. Should you require additional information. Please contact the Public Works Department.

Not Just Business As Usual at the Library!

Think Libraries are just for books? Think again! 
Are you starting or growing a small business? Did you know that at the Beaverton Branch of the Brock Township Public Library there is a dedicated Business Work Desk to help emerging small business owners and entrepreneurs build and grow their small businesses? In addition to the business desk, which offers use of basic office tools, we also offer free Wi-Fi and internet services, in-house use of laptops, and Reference Services.Equally valuable to potential business start-ups are library services like faxing, copying, binding, lamination, and spaces for meetings and training.
When you use the library as a place to explore your business ideas staff can assist you in finding the research resources that you may need. We have books on everything from marketing plans to human resources and more!   The Brock Township Public Library also offers free one on one technical help with computers, social media, and smart devices that can help launch your business, or take it to the next level.  Entrepreneurs who want to start a small business can use a variety of resources, including on-line databases to conduct market research, research government and local business support and to access business planning materials.  By appointment staff can help you discover what emerging technologies (e.g., online forums, social networking sites, wikis, blogs, etc.) can be used for your small business.
Come in to the Beaverton Branch and explore how the library can help you make your entrepreneurial dreams come true!  Don't forget your library card!

Exploring Value-Added Opportunities Workshop

March 31, 2017 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the 
Sunderland Memorial Arena
Register today for the Exploring Value-Added Opportunities Workshop! For only $20.00 you will learn how to generate new ideas for value-added products and services on your farm, assess your ideas and business potential, identify and

manage potential risks and determine and plan what it take to turn your idea into reality. You will also receive resources materials, lunch and refreshments.
This Workshop is being held on conjunction between the Township of Brock Economic Development Advisory Committee, OMAFRA, the Brock Board of Trade (BBOT), and the Region of Durham Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Economic Development Department.

2017 Township of Brock Accessibility Award

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2017 Township of Brock Accessibility Award. This award is presented once a year to a business or organization in the Township that has shown a concerted effort to improve accessibility. To submit a nomination please fill out the online form by May 31, 2017.

Maple Syrup Production in Brock Township

Did you know:
  • A maple tree has to be at least 40 years old to be big enough to tap
  • Maple syrup doesn't freeze
  • Sap has a sugar content of about 2.5% while syrup averages 66.6%
  • For every litre of syrup, farmers have to boil down 40 litres of sap

ReWilding Youth Design Challenge

On April 1 & 2, 2017, ReWilding Lake Simcoe in partnership with the Brock Youth Centre will be leading a two day workshop that will allow Brock's youth to question, explore and express their voices and ideas on the future of their lives and their community, with a special focus on the new Harbour of the Future.

Brock Tourism BR+E 2017

The Brock Tourism Business Retention and Expansion Project is being lead by the Township of Brock Economic Development Advisory Committee (B.E.D.A.C.) in conjunction with the Region of Durham's Planning & Economic Development Department. 
What is a BR+E Project?
A structured action oriented and community-based approach to business and economic development
  • Promotes job growth by helping communities learn about issues/opportunities for local businesses and set priorities for projects to address these needs
  • A BR+E project consists of trained volunteers who visit businesses and conduct confidential interviews with business owners/senior level management.
Goals of the 2017 Tourism BR+E
  • Determine how to capitalize on Brock's best tourism assets
  • Continue to support existing tourism-related businesses and determine other ways that these existing business can be supported more effectively
  • Grow the tourism industry in Brock Township by attracting new businesses and visitors
  • Create a sustainable tourism sector in Brock Township
