Public Statement regarding COVID-19 from Mayor Debbie Bath-Hadden

I would like to update residents about the actions and efforts we have taken and plan to take, regarding our response to COVID-19 in the Township of Brock.

A special Council meeting was held on Monday, March 16 to provide staff the opportunity to further brief Council of the Township’s actions to date and a resolution was adopted authorizing authority for administrative and legislative powers under the Municipal Act to myself and the CAO, exclusively for use in emergencies, so, that we can remain diligent in our efforts to continue to serve the community, while keeping the health and safety of our residences and staff a top priority.

As you have likely heard, all Township of Brock recreational programs have been closed until further notice and all Township facilities, including the Municipal Administration Building, as well as our libraries, are closed to the public. Staff will continue to serve residents via email and phone. Residents may also use our drop box at the front of the building. It will be checked on a regular basis. An update on how each department is currently operating is available on our website.

All Township appointed advisory Committees and boards have been cancelled until further notice. Council’s regular scheduled meeting for Monday, March 23 at 6:30 p.m. has been cancelled, as well as the Statutory Public Meeting scheduled for Monday, April 6 at 6:30 p.m. Updates on any emergency meetings will be communicated on our website and social media.

These operational decisions are never made lightly and were made to help keep the health and safety of our community in mind. We continue to hear the importance of social distancing and flattening the curve. With these changes, we are trying to help limit the opportunity for the virus to spread.

I would like to thank all the businesses in our community who have stepped up to the plate in these hard times, especially those who are working hard to ensure shelves are stocked of essentials for our residents.

I also want to COMMEND all the businesses in our Community who are now opening their doors early for our residents 65+ as well as for those who have a compromised immune system.  I would also like to give a THANK YOU to all businesses that are now providing delivery service.  Also, to our eating establishments, THANK YOU for your commitment to continue to provide take out service to our residents.  To all of our residents who have stepped up to provide porch drop off for those whom are self isolating, THANK YOU.

I AM EXTREMELY PROUD OF OUR BROCK COMMUNITY.

I want to acknowledge the swift and dedicated action of our staff last week to assess, examine and make operational decisions based on an overwhelming and constantly changing amount of information from the province, the federal government health officials and Durham Region Health Department. The Township of Brock, along with all the other Regional Municipalities, made many difficult decisions to assist in limiting the spread of COVID-19. I would personally like to thank our CAO and Fire Chief, who is responsible for Emergency Management in Brock, and to all staff, for their dedication to continue to provide services to our community while keeping the health of staff and residents a priority.

These are stressful times for everyone and we need to continue to support and assist one another. We need to listen to the health experts! Stay home if you can. When going to shop at one of our local establishments, please check with a neighbor, your loved ones and our seniors if there is anything that you can pick up for them.   Read stories, play board games, enjoy your family’s company. Stay connected with other family and friends via phone calls, text message and emails.

Together we as a community can FLATTEN THE CURVE of infection and get back to our day to day lives! On behalf of the Council of the Township of Brock, we thank you all for your patience and support at this time.

All the best,

Mayor Debbie Bath-Hadden
