Durham Region Works Department: Beaverton Water Distribution System Cleaning

Public Notice:

September to October 2019

Below is a copy of the public notice that is hand delivered to each resident 48 hours prior to work being done on their street.

The Regional Municipality of Durham (Region) has contracted Corix Water Services to clean the watermain on your street.

The cleaning is scheduled for _______________________ from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

On the night of your cleaning prior to 10 p.m. the shut off valve should be turned off at the meter to ensure water is not drawn into your home (see image on back of this notice). Where this is not possible, it is very important that no water is used for any purpose until the cleaning operation has been completed on your street (this includes flushing of toilets and backwashing of water softeners). If water is used during this period it could result in material being drawn into the building’s plumbing system and possibly causing issues such as plugging of internal plumbing.

Once the watermain cleaning is complete after 5 a.m. we ask that you turn on a cold water tap only and let it run for approximately five minutes before using hot water. You may experience some discoloured water during this initial flush. Following this initial water flush, normal water use can resume. Residents may find it useful to keep a supply of drinking water on hand for drinking, cooking and general purposes during the scheduled watermain cleaning.

It is possible that your home could be affected over several days. If this is the case you will receive a separate notice for each night you are affected.

The Region realizes that the work will be disruptive and will make every effort to complete the work as quickly and efficiently as possible.
