Brock Tourism Business Retention and Expansion Project Underway

The Township of Brock Tourism Business Retention and Expansion (BR+E) project is underway. This community based business visitation project was initiated by the Township of Brock’s Economic Development Advisory Committee and is being led by the Township of Brock with assistance from Durham Region Economic Development. Additional project partners include Durham Tourism, the Brock Board of Trade and Durham Workforce Authority. The overall goal is to help grow the local tourism industry in Brock Township by gathering input from the community and local business owners.

The BR+E process is a key step in building an effective partnership between local businesses and the community. “We encourage businesses and the community to get behind this project and help drive tourism in Brock Township. Bringing new visitors also brings an influx of outside spending and helps our local businesses thrive”, says Deputy Mayor Ted Smith.

The project consists of trained volunteers who conduct confidential interviews with tourism related businesses across the Township of Brock. Several volunteer interviewers have been trained and a number of interviews have already taken place. Interviews will continue throughout the months of May, June and July.

Immediate business concerns and needs raised during each interview are being addressed as best as possible. At the completion of the interviews, aggregate survey responses will be analysed to identify opportunities to improve the local Brock tourism environment. No information on individual businesses will be identified.

Additional volunteers are needed to assist with interviews in the coming months. Although interviews have started, tourism related businesses and organizations still have the opportunity to get involved.
